FATIMA HAS HAD EPILEPSY since the age of three. For 30 years the treatment available to her did not control her seizures. She recently made a 150-mile trip to the epilepsy clinic in Freetown. She was diagnosed with epilepsy and received Roweepra through one of our partners, Medical Assistance Sierra Leone (MASL).
Seizure control is an amazing victory for Fatima. But she’s still unable to find a job because of mental health issues and social stigmas. Medication is just one weapon, albeit a critical one, in the fight against epilepsy, along with diagnosis, training and education.
MASL and the Epilepsy Association of Sierra Leone work to raise awareness about epilepsy in a nation with a treatment gap of 90%. We applaud MASL and other organizations that holistically support patients. And we will keep providing Roweepra in as many under-resourced areas as we can.
Fatima and her family are only one example of the lives being transformed by OWP medications granted through the ROW Foundation. This month we also made large grants to:
- Americares: $670,000 (wholesale value) – 279 cases of Roweepra to carry out their mission of restoring health and saving lives in the US.
- Cuatro por Venezuela: $383,000 (wholesale value) – This is our second shipment of emergency humanitarian aid to benefit patients of Liga Venezolana Contra la Epilepsia throughout Venezuela.
- CURE International: $17,000 (wholesale value) – This is our second shipment as part of an ongoing grant for the epilepsy program at CURE Children’s Hospital in Mbale, Uganda.
IN 2018 WE HAVE MADE ALMOST $4,000,000 IN MEDICATION AND MONETARY GRANTS, WHICH TRANSLATES INTO THOUSANDS OF CHANGED LIVES!
